A move away from being employed by others to working for himself through his new business, NRH Services, is allowing Trevor Johnson of Grant to utilize his talents in the areas of welding, electrical and diesel mechanics.

Earning a degree in diesel mechanics, which included welding instruction, from Mid-Plains Community College in 2006, Johnson went to work for his father, Barry, at Kenfield Electric for several years, eventually earning his journeyman degree.

In 2014, Johnson went to work for Quality Diesel, which was a great experience, he said. However, around the end of last year and the beginning of 2023, he began desiring to branch out and utilize his other talents.

Trevor’s wife, Jill, said her husband enjoys a lot of variety in his day, which his new business offers. Being self-employed also gives him more freedom to control how he spends his time balancing work and family, which includes the couple’s three children, Natalie, Russell and Hayden. The three kiddos were the inspiration behind the new business’ name, they said.

With Jill’s support, Trevor took the official plunge with self-employment, and April 3, 2023 was his first official day of business.

Jill will now add the job of supporting her husband to her already busy life of serving as a nurse at Perkins County Health Services, and working for Weiss Hydration.

With advertising only on social media, and by word of mouth, the couple said they instantly had work booked out for a month, and now are booked six to eight weeks out.

“We are available for emergency situations, however,” Trevor said.

NRH offers a full range of services in the diesel and electrical fields from small to large, and smaller fabrication services for customer’s welding needs, he said.

The couple is renting a building from the Poppe family to serve as their shop, which is located at 76690 Road 327, just south of Trinity Lutheran Church. (From Grant, 6 north to 766, then west one mile and north one mile.) Work can be done at their shop or out in the field, they said. “It just depends on the situation,” Trevor said.

NRH Services can be contacted at 308-353-0415, and can be found on Facebook and Instagram.

Both Trevor and Jill are excited for the new adventure and look forward to serving the area.
