Coach Pritchett amid the best

     Coach Larry Pritchett received a prestigious award last week during the annual meeting of the National High School Athletic Coaches Association in Colorado Springs.
     The head coach of the Perkins County Plainsmen was honored with a plaque as one of eight finalists in the NHSACA's selection of the National Coach of the Year in boys basketball.

Fluoride in water vote still afloat stillvafloadiscussion on fluoride

     The City of Grant's water supply is already very close to meeting the new legislative requirement stating that Nebraska communities with at least 1,000 residents provide drinking water with .7 parts per million fluoride-or opt out by ballot vote.
     Grant must comply with Legislative Bill 245 unless voters choose not to have the city's water supply fluoridated to meet the standard.

Perkins County Community Foundation praises supporters and proclaims more projects

     The Perkins County Community Foundation has supported several projects around the county, and with establishment of a $100,000 endowment, is looking forward to assisting with many more projects in years to come.
     According to Becky Uehling, chairman of the foundation, the endowment will now provide $5,000 back into the economy of the county to be used for business development and support, youth support, infrastructure improvements, seed money for start-up businesses, and more.

Swim team readies for qualifying meet

    Looking forward to wrapping up a successful season, Grant's swim team is headed into a qualifying meet at Benkelman on July 12 to determine who qualifies for the championship meet in Lexington on July 19. The swim team, which is part of the Plains Tsunami Swim League, is in its fourth year of competition. Coached by Becca Lagler, 24 swimmers have competed at five meets thus far this season.      Donations for the annual Fourth of July fireworks continue to come in as the annual event nears. The Chamber-sponsored event scheduled to take place at the Perkins County Fairgrounds at 9:30 p.m. Friday promises to be as spectacular as ever. Contributions can be left at any bank in the county or at The Barber Pole in Grant.

Recycling stabilizes global economy

    Recycled paper that has been manufactured from recovered waste paper is one such product. Called scrap paper, the waste paper comes from three primary sources:
     • Pre-consumer waste is paper discarded before reaching a consumer.
     • Post-consumer waste is paper used by a consumer, as well as magazines, old telephone directories and residential mixed paper.

    Chamber needs public input for the Grand Marshal of the Perkins County Fair Parade. Send letters of nomination to Justin Coats, Perkins County Chamber, Box 767, Grant NE 69140 no later than Friday, July 11.

Seeking Good Neighbor
    The honor of Good Neighbor during the Perkins County Fair will go to one outstanding individual.
     Please mail letter of nomination to Box 67, Grant NE 69140, fax 308-352-4101, grantrib@gpcom.net, or drop off at The Grant Tribune, who sponsors the honor along with Preceptor Alpha Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
     The deadline is July 18.

Food pantry needs items
    The Perkins County Food Pantry is low on many items, including meat. No canned veggies needed!

Wallace CC to meet July 10
    The Wallace Community Club will meet July 10, 7 p.m., at the Legion Hall to plan the Fall Festival set for Sept 20. Everyone welcome.
