Summer vacation will end for students in Perkins County on Friday, Aug. 15 rather than Aug. 13, as originaly planned.
Because construction is underway on a new addition at the high school in Grant, the facility has been without power for several weeks—causing a snowball effect for attendance at the other two facilities.
There will be a 1:30 p.m. dismissal on Aug. 15. Doors will open Monday, Aug. 18 for students K-12 on the regular class schedule.
Due to electrical power being temporarily shut off, administration and staff have been housed in the Madrid middle school facility for a couple of weeks while busily preparing for the new school year.  
Regular hours will vary slightly after that:
School Hours
• K-5 starts 8:05 a.m. with dismissal at 3:30 p.m.
• Grades 6-8 begin at 8:05 a.m. and dismiss at 3:15 p.m.
• High school classes start at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3:32 p.m.
K-5 grades dismiss at 2:30 p.m.; grades 6-8 dismiss at 2:15 p.m.; 9-12 dismiss at 2:31 p.m.
Meal Prices
(Must be paid in advance)
• Breakfast will be served to grades PreK-8 at a price of $1.60.
• Lunch prices are:
Grades PreK-5 $2.35, grades 6-12 $2.85, adults $3.60.
Extra milk is 35 cents and a second entree helping is $1. There is no charge for seconds on fruits and vegetables.
Activity Passes
Fans can obtain passes for the activities offered at Perkins County Schools.
Adults $50, senior citizens $25, students K-12 $25.
A family pass can be purchased for $130 which includes two adults and unlimited K-12 students living in the same home.
The physical education curriculum includes swimming for the first two weeks of school.
Students in K-8 will participate in these classes until the end of August.
Calendar Dates
Sept. 1: Labor Day—­no school.
Oct. 23-24: Parent/teacher conference and staff development—no school.
Nov. 27-28: Thanksgiving vacation—no school. Dismiss Nov. 26 at 1:30 p.m.
Dec. 20-Jan. 4: Winter break—no school. (Dismissal Dec. 19 at 1:30).
Feb. 12: PreK-5 no school. Parent/teacher conference.
March 9: No school PreK-12—staff development.
March 12-13: Spring break—no school.
April 3: Easter—no school.
April 24: No school 9-12 for district music.
May 9: Graduation 1 p.m.
May 15: Last day.
