Leaping off the bus on the first day of school, Wayne Loy hits the ground running, eager to get started as a fifth grader at Perkins County Elementary in Grant. He is the son of Brad and Diane Loy. Students, teachers, aides and a few teary parents gathered at the east door after the bell rang at 8:05 a.m. on Monday morning to signal the beginning of the 2009-10 term. Classrooms were abuzz with first day jitters, instructions and chatter as everyone tried to settle into what will become routine for the next nine months. School dismissed across the district at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Regular hours for grades K-5 are 8:05 a.m. to 3:30, grades 6-8 go from 8:05 a.m.-3:15 p.m. daily, and high schoolers start at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3:32 p.m. Dismissal on Fridays is one hour earlier for all grades.
