Former Nebraska State Senator Ron Raikes died on his family farm west of Ashland on Sept. 5 in a farm accident.
Sen. Raikes, 66, was found dead by a neighbor inside a hay grinding machine about 10:30 p.m. CDT after his wife Helen became worried that he didn’t return.
He was elected in 1998 to represent the 25th Legislative District and was re-elected in 2000 and in 2004.
Raikes left the Nebraska Legislature in 2008 due to term limits.
Services for Sen. Raikes were held Sept. 10 with a private burial service at Ashland Cemetery.
