Nick Turner has been selected as the Beta Sigma Phi October “Senior of the Month.”
Turner, a student at Perkins County High School, is the son of Shawn and Michelle Turner of rural Grant.
Throughout high school, Turner has striven to be as active as possible and achieve many goals.
Sports has been an important part of his school experience, as a participant in football, basketball, track and golf. Community activities have included soccer and 4-H trap shooting.
Turner has also been a band member and has participated in several special musical groups.
Additionally, he has participated in several drama productions, including oral interpretation of drama, spring plays, speech and fall musical.
He has held the class offices of vice president and treasurer, and has been a member of student council.
Active in FFA, he has received several awards in the program.
Additional honors include being selected to academic all-state, inducted into National Honor Society, included on the A honor roll throughout high school and selected to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Camp.
In community service, Turner has participated in Boy Scout highway trash pick ups, has been a volunteer coach for youth baseball and basketball, helped with the 2008 election, has participated in Methodist youth group activities, delivered phone books and participated in other activities through FFA.
He has been a boy scout for several years and will soon receive his Eagle Scout award.
During the summers, he has worked long hours at the family farm, Turn-West Farms Inc.
Following graduation in May, Turner plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and major in business administration.
For being selected Senior of the Month, Turner’s picture will hang in the lobby of Pinnacle Bank in Grant and he will be eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.
