PCS girls quintet to sing National Anthem at state football finals
By Jan Rahn
Five very proud young ladies from Perkins County High School have been selected to sing the National Anthem prior to the start of the NSAA football championship finals on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
The girls will sing at approximately 2:42 p.m. CST after the participating teams are introduced. The game will be broadcast live on NET statewide television from the University of Nebraska Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
Selected from a group of candidates who auditioned via recorded format are Krystal Gaar, Mackenzie Hite, Tori Osler, Brooke Poppe and Lyndee Schrotberger.
Under the direction of PCS vocal music instructor Judy Kurkowski, the girls will be provided with courtesy passes to the ballgame, and their transportation and lodging will be taken out of the school’s activity fund.
“I am really excited for the girls,” said Kurkowski.
It will be a fun experience for them, first working with the sound technicians at rehearsal, and then performing at Memorial Stadium, she said.
Kurkowski said she always has several volunteers eagerly waiting their turn to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at the home high school ballgames.
“This is an extra treat,” she said. “I’m very proud of them.”
Kurkowski gives credit to the entire community for the support they show the youth.
