|Annexation vote by city council set for Dec. 22 during special meeting|

The second reading on four ordinances pertaining to annexation took place at the regular meeting of Grant City Council Tuesday, Dec. 8.
A special meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 22 for the third reading, along with a council vote, on annexing four areas into the corporate limits of the City of Grant.
Areas of Proposed Annexation
The four areas surrounding the City of Grant proposed for annexation include:
Area 1: West—which includes the Mastre subdivision and additional acreage.
Area 2: North—which includes Styskal subdivision and several acres on either side of Highway 61 north of 10th Street.
Area 3: Southwest—including several acres south of Highway 23 toward the west.
Area 4: East and Southeast—which includes acreage straight east of the corporate limits of Grant along with acreage on both the north and south sides of Highway 23 going east.
The first reading of four ordinances took place at the meeting, including:
• An ordinance describing abatement outside the city limits pertaining to the health and safety of the city relating to nuisances, sanitation and quarantine.
• Amending an ordinance on dogs running at large.
• An ordinance on obtaining a permit for well drilling.
• Amendment of an ordinance on discharging firearms within city limits.
The city council discussed use of federal funds for improving the airport and taxi way.
Council members passed a resolution approving change in airport hangar rates for the City of Grant.
The monthly and yearly rates put into effect Dec. 8 are in addition to the already established daily rates for aircraft at the airport.
Added rates include: trailer $100/mo $900/yr; single engine $125 mo $1,200/yr; twin prop $175/mo $1,800/yr; turbine $375/mo $4,200/yr.
The council approved the suggested mayoral appointments to the city’s various boards and advisory committees.
Appointed for a one-year term are: Tyson McGreer as city superintendent/administrator, Gary Beckler as code enforcement officer, Phil Pierce as city attorney, Tom Werblow as city engineer and street superintendent, Don Softley as civil defense director, Jessie Faber as city clerk/treasurer, Dr. Clifford Colglazier as city physician, and Jim Brueggeman to the board of health.
Appointments to advisory committees and the ending date of the term include:
• Airport Advisory Board: Larry Harden (Dec. 2012), Ole Sihm (Dec. 2012), Gaylord Lacy (Dec. 2011), Robert Bounds (Dec. 2011).
• Board of Adjustment: Lloyd Logsdon (Dec. 2012), John Long (Dec. 2011), Steve Bottom (Dec. 2010).
• Cemetery Board: Rosie Barry (Dec. 2011).
• Economic Development Committee: Bernie Deaver (Dec. 2011).
• Library Board: Larry Peterson (Dec. 2014).
• Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee: Nichole Toner (Dec. 2011).
• Planning Commission: Cathy Harden (Dec. 2012).
• Board of Public Works: Rick Salsman (Dec. 2011), Glenn Taubenheim (Dec. 2012).
• Tree Advisory Board: Jon Forney (Dec. 2011), Tom Epling (Dec. 2012).
• Water Use: During the month of November there were 4,196,500 gallons of water used in the city. Compared to water use in October there were 1,515,400 fewer gallons used during November.
In comparison to the number of gallons used one year ago during the same month, November 2009 use was down 1,466,500 gallons.
• Lotto: Sales at DJ’s Bar and Grill for the month of November totaled $11,009.45. A payout of $5,981.91 left a net figure of $5,027.54 for the month.
