Children’s Hospital receives generous donations PDF Print E-mail

“AmFirst Insurance Services donated $100 to the hematology/oncology clinic at Children’s Hospital and Medical Clinic in Omaha. The $100 was designated to be used by the Child Life Specialist, Christy Hogan, to use at her discretion.

Kassie Pelster, Insurance Agent with AmFirst Insurance Services-Wallace, presented the check on Dec. 17, 2009.

AmFirst Insurance selected the hematology/oncology clinic as their recipient because Blake Pelster, son of Matt and Kassie Pelster, has been a patient of the clinic for six years.

Dec. 17, marked the sixth year anniversary of his diagnoses of leukemia.

“Blake has been able to do so many fun things, and receive so many neat gifts from the child life specialists while he’s been a patient there, we just really wanted to make sure these things would be there for the future patients of the clinic,” said Kassie.

The same day that AmFirst Insurance Services made the $100 donation to the hematology/oncology clinic, Blake Pelster also made a donation to the hospital.

Nebraska Husker blankets donated by The Sports Shoppe in North Platte, were given to Blake to donate to any place of his choice. Blake decided to give  the blankets to the oncology kids that were inpatient at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha.

“I want to give them to the kids upstairs (inpatient status in Children’s) because it’s close to Christmas and it’s not fun being in the hospital during Christmas,” said Blake. “I was in (the hospital) just last Christmas. Those kids have to go through a lot of stuff, so they deserve the blankets.”

Blake was able to give 19 oncology kids the Husker blankets.
