|Lady Cats have a tough schedule their first week back|

The day after Christmas vacation, the Wallace Wildcats traveled to Curtis to face Medicine Valley.
In the first quarter, Medicine Valley led the Lady Cats 14 to 16, but the Cats clawed their way back, and headed into the locker room with a slim lead, 29 to 28.
After half, the Cats seemed to find a rhythm, outscoring Med. Valley by four, to extend their lead to 43 to 38 after three.
Building on momentum in the fourth, the Lady Cats won the game, 61 to 52.
Offensively, senior Katie West (6 free throws) led the Cats with 30 points followed by senior Jena Aylward (8 free throws) with 16 points.
Junior Katelynn Hild scored 5 points (3 free throws), juniors Shanice Harris and Laura O’Brien (2 free throws) each scored 4 points, and senior Josi Hasenauer scored 2 points.
Leading the team with assists were Aylward (5), West (3), J. Hasenauer (2), Hild (2), and O’Brien (1).
Leading the team with offensive rebounds were Aylward (5), West (3), J. Hasenauer (1), Hild (1), Harris (1), and O’Brien (1).
Defensively, West led the Cats with 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal, followed closely by Aylward with 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 3 steals. J. Hasenauer had 2 rebounds and 2 steals, Harris had 3 rebounds, Hild had 3 steals, O’Brien had 2 rebounds and 1 steal, and sophomore Brooke Hochstetler had 1 rebound.
Wallace vs. Arthur County
Friday night, the Wildcats met Arthur County in Wallace. Their determination, speed, and agility appeared to be too much for Arthur. The Lady Cats took the early lead, 12 to 1. The gap was broadened when Hild hit back-to-back field goals, bringing the score to 18 to 1.
Arthur County did manage to score again, but the Cats closed the quarter 23 to 3.
Katie West started the second quarter with a quick two-points, which prompted Coach Koop to bench all five starters, and let her second string take the court.
Arthur County battled back and outscored the Lady Cats by two in the second quarter, cutting the Cats lead to 19 as both teams headed into the locker room.
The third quarter saw new momentum build in the Lady Cats. The first and second string worked hard to strengthen their lead. Shanice “Bob” Harris scored the final points of the quarter to bring the score to 46 to 15.
In the fourth quarter, it was Arthur County’s turn to rally. They outscored the Cats by five, but the Cat had built an insurmountable lead. The Cats won their first home game in 2010, 54 to 28.
Offensively, West led the Cats with 14 points (2 for 2 free throws) followed by Hochstetler with 9 (1 free throw), and Hild with 8 (2 field goals). O’Brien made 6 points, Aylward made 5 points (1 free throw), Harris and sophomore Emily Hasenauer each made 4 points, and J. Hasenauer and senior Annika Wickizer each made 2 points.
Leading the team with assists were J. Hasenauer (3), Hild (2), Wickizer (2), E. Hasenauer (2), West (1), O’Brien (1), Whitson (1), senior Tarassa Swedberg (1) and junior Whitney Smith (1).
Leading the team with offensive rebounds were Aylward (4), Harris (4), West (2), Smith (2), freshman Anna Griffiths (1), and freshman Chelsea Sowle (1).
Defensively, Hochstetler led the Cats with 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block followed by Alyward and Harris each with 6 rebounds.
West had 3 rebounds and 1 steal, Hild had 2 rebounds and 1 steal, Smith had 1 rebound and 2 steal, Sowle and Whitson each had 1 rebound, Swedberg had 1 block, and E. Hasenauer had 1 steal.
Wallace vs. Mullen
Saturday night, the Wildcats traveled to North Platte High School to play Mullen. The Cats fought hard in the first half, heading into the locker room trailing by just 3 points, 23 to 26. The second half was more of a struggle. The Bronco’s press in the second half of the game seemed to deflate the Lady Cats; every point was a struggle. The Bronco won the game 34 to 54.
Offensively, Harris led the Cats with 10 points (4 free throws) followed by West with 8 (2 free throws). Aylward scored 6 points (2 free throws), O’Brien and J. Hasenauer each had 4, and Hochstetler had 2.
Leading the team with assists were O’Brien (4), West (3), and Aylward (3). Leading the team with offensive rebounds were West (5), Aylward (2), Hild (1), Smith (1), Harris(1), O’Brien (1), and Hochstetler (1).
Defensively, Hochstetler led the Cats with 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 blocks followed closely by West with 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 3 blocks. Aylward had 2 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal, J. Hasenauer had 2 rebounds and 3 steals, Hild had 1 rebound and 4 steals, Harris had 3 rebounds and 1 steal, O’Brien had 1 rebound and 2 steals, Smith had 1 rebound, and Swedberg had 1 block.
The Cats will meet South Platte in Wallace on Thursday, Jan. 14, with JV starting at 4 p.m. CST, and then will travel to Paxton on Friday, Jan. 15, to play the Tigers. On Tuesday, Jan.19, they will defend their home court against Dundy County, with JV starting at 4 p.m. CST.
