NWS team at North Platte receives forecast award PDF Print E-mail

NORTH PLATTE (AP) — The North Platte office of the National Weather Service has been honored for its forecasts and warnings about a blizzard last April in western Nebraska.

John Stoppkotte, meteorologist and the office’s operations officer, told KNOP television in North Platte that the Regional Isaac Cline Award is given to individuals or teams that excel in the forecasting of high-impact events.

The North Platte team members were recognized for how quickly and effectively they warned the public.

Stoppkotte said his office forecast the storm five days before it hit and issued blizzard warnings 35 hours ahead of its arrival in Nebraska on April 4.

The region includes 38 Weather Service offices from Colorado east to Michigan.
