New candidates enter races PDF Print E-mail

Three non-incumbents have filed as candidates in the upcoming 2010 General Election in November.

The most recent non-incumbent filings include Matt Waitley for Perkins County Commissioner in District 2 and Jill Pelster who entered the race as a candidate for the Perkins County Schools Board of Education. 

The other non-incumbent candidate vying for a position among the county’s elected officials is Ted Deaver who filed the first part of January.

Waitley has entered the commissioner race against incumbent Leon Pankonin in District 2. 

Ted Deaver will run against the incumbent, James Deaver, for the  commissioner seat in District 3.

Other filings last week include that of two incumbents. Perkins County Assessor Bonnie Appel filed as a candidate for another term as assessor. Michelle Ross filed as an incumbent for the Village of Madrid Board of Trustees.

Incumbents have until Tuesday, Feb. 16 to file for one of the open seats in the county. These include county attorney, county clerk, county sheriff, county treasurer, county assessor, district 2 commissioner and district 3 commissioner. 

Seats are also open for the Perkins County Hospital Board, Perkins County School District, Mayor of Grant, Grant City Council, Village of Elsie, Village of Madrid, Village of Venango, ESU 16, NRD Sub-District 4, 8, 10, and At-Large, District 4 of the NPPD and a seat on Mid-Plains Community College Area 2.

• Commissioner District 2: Matt Waitley, non-incumbent

• Board of Education: Jill Pelster, non-incumbent

• Perkins County Assessor: Bonnie Appel, incumbent

• Village of Madrid: Michelle Ross, incumbent  

FILING DEADLINES:

—May 11 Primary

Incumbent deadline: Tuesday, Feb. 16. 

Non-incumbent deadline: Monday, March 1.

Withdrawal: Once an incumbent files, they have until March 1 to withdraw from the race.
