|PCHS speakers are runners-up at SPVA|
Competing at Hershey on Feb. 24, PCHS speakers tallied 209 points in two rounds of preliminary and one round of final competition at the SPVA Speech Contest.
Maxwell scored 220 points to take the title from the defending champions. Third place went to North Platte St. Pat’s with a score of 162 points.
Unlike many of the invitational speech meets which determine team points on the basis of the final round of competition, the SPVA scoring includes the performances in preliminary rounds, insuring that each competitor contributes to the overall team standing.
SPVA contest rules allow only two entries in each of the nine events.

Humorous Prose–Lacey Jensen third, Ashley Kemling Superior.
Serious Prose–Ashley Kemling first, Calla Mailand fourth.
Duet Acting–Erik Hagan and Mackenzie Hite first, Lacey Jensen and Rachel Patrick third.
Oral Interpretation of Drama– Erik Hagan, Jeremy Hagan, Kye Kurkowski, Josh Sexson and Nick Turner first; Elisa Carlson, Mackenzie Hite, Amara Meyer, Brooke Poppe and Michael York fourth.
The Saturday before Wednesday’s conference contest sent speakers to the Ogallala Invite. No team scores are awarded at Ogallala as the contest recognizes individuals in the top six places.

The PCHS speech team will host the C2-6 district contest on Monday, March 8. In a field of nine participating schools, PCHS competitors will speak in one round of preliminary competition.
Each round will be divided into two sections with the top three in each section advancing to a final round.
The top three contestants will earn a trip to the state speech contest held at UNK on Friday, March 19.
