The Nebraska Sports Council has announced the 2010 Cornhusker State Games Torch Run route and dates, and is encouraging Nebraska residents to participate.

The Torch Run, sponsored by the Nebraska Army National Guard and Air National Guard, will kick off on May 3 at the Wyoming border west of Scottsbluff.

Applicants for the Torch Run will be assigned segments in one-mile increments.

Runners will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no fee for the Torch Run, and participants will each receive a T-shirt.

Entry information is available at CornhuskerStateGames.com.

The torch will go through Ogallala, Grant and Imperial on Monday, May 10.

The Torch Run will reach Lincoln, its final destination, on May 27, but won’t officially end until the caldron is lit at the games’ opening ceremonies, on June 25. The route will cover over 1,200 miles and involve approximately 1,000 runners and volunteers as it weaves its way across Nebraska.

The Cornhusker State Games will be held June 19-27 and is expected to draw more than 14,000 Nebraska athletes.
