|Torch runners needed for state games|
Nebraskans are invited to run a mile with the torch in the Nebraska National Guard and Air Guard, Cornhusker State Games Torch Run.
The Torch Run, sponsored by the Nebraska Army National Guard and Air National Guard, will kick off on May 3 at the Wyoming border west of Scottsbluff.
The route will cover over 1,200 miles and involve approximately 1,000 runners and volunteers as it weaves its way across Nebraska.
It will reach Lincoln, its final destination, on May 27, but won’t officially end until the caldron is lit at the Games’ Opening Ceremonies, on June 25 at Seacrest Field in Lincoln.
Applicants for the Torch Run will be assigned segments in one-mile increments.
Runners will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
There is no fee for the Torch Run, and participants will each receive a T-shirt. Entry information is available at CornhuskerStateGames.com.

The Torch Run exemplifies many things about Nebraskans: their work ethic, individual will to succeed and desire for self-improvement and physical fitness. Participants may choose to run for vigorous exercise or a casual jog. But best of all, they can choose to run a mile just for the memories.
The Cornhusker State Games will be held June 19-27 and is expected to draw more than 14,000 Nebraska athletes.
Fifty Cornhusker State Games sports are currently open for online registration. With 64 sports in all, designed for all ages and abilities, there is something for everyone.
