Competing in a field of nine  schools, the varsity members of the Perkins County High School  competitive speech team compiled 138 points to secure first place team honors at the C2-6 District Speech Contest held on Monday, March 8 at PCHS. 

Students from Chase County, Dundy County-Stratton, Garden County, Hemingford, Maxwell, North Platte St. Pat’s, Perkins County, Southwest, and Sutherland participated for a trip to the state tournament. 

After a preliminary round of competition, the six highest qualifiers entered a final round of competition which advanced the top three speakers to the state meet to be held in Kearney on Friday, March 19.

Seventeen events from PCHS made it into finals, with 10 events qualifying for state.

Poppe, and Michael York 4th.

District runner-up was Maxwell with 118 points.
