The Wallace Wildcats have been battling the weather to get outside and prepare for their opening meet this Saturday, March 27, at Hershey.

Leading the Wildcats this year will be returning state qualifiers Josi Hasenauer, Laura O’Brien, and Sean May.  Hasenauer and O’Brien were on the 3200 meter relay team that won Districts and placed sixth at the state meet last season.  May was the District Champion in the 400.

Hasenauer is the lone senior on the squad this season.  The rest of the roster (* denotes returning letter winner) includes juniors Laura O’Brien*, Shanice Harris*, Whitney Smith*, Sean May*, Shawn Christensen*, Lane Swedberg*, Ryan Sowle; sophomores Brooke Hochstetler*, Emily Hasenauer*, Tanner McCoy, John Paul Lempke, Ethen Scott; freshmen Chelsea Sowle, Anna Griffiths, Gini Phillips, Yoana Arteaga, Levi Unruh, and Mark Jameson.

Tarassa Swedberg and Katelynn Hild are the student managers for the team. Coaches this year are Liz Strand, Kory Rohde, and Derek Hutchison.

The 14-member Republican Plains Activities Conference (RPAC) hasn’t changed in the past year, but Wallace is in a different district than in previous years.

The D-10 District includes Anselmo-Merna, Arnold, Arthur County, Brady, Callaway, Mullen, Paxton, SMC (Stapleton/McPherson County), Sandhills/Thedford, and Wallace.

The opening meet, the Hershey/St. Pat’s Invite, will be held Saturday, March 27 at Hershey, beginning with field events at 10 a.m., and prelims at around noon.
