A hired farm hand was rescued from inside a grain bin on the Mark Wendell property Friday, April 2, eight miles south and two miles west of Madrid.

Victor Meza, 23, of Holyoke, Colo., was freed from the corn’s grip and able to walk to a waiting ambulance, thanks to the rescue efforts of several area volunteer fire department personnel.

The call came into the Perkins County 911 center at 2:28 p.m. and the scene was cleared at 6:46 p.m., according to information from Perkins County Sheriff Jim Brueggeman.

Grant and Madrid fire departments initially received the dispatch. They summoned Imperial and Elsie for help, and the Venango department was brought in later for assistance in the rescue effort.
