Art opportunities available to public PDF Print E-mail

Perkins County Area Arts Council members have had a busy season with a highly successful dinner theater last month, and ideas for upcoming projects.

Thanks to the receipt of keno funds from the City of Grant, the council plans to offer several new art opportunities to the public.

Carving Classes

Local carver Archie Silvrants is giving carving classes on Monday afternoons, beginning at 4 p.m., at Meadowlark Gallery in Grant.

He welcomes all skill levels, and participants will initially be provided materials by the gallery. Beginners will start with a small, simple project such as a Christmas tree ornament.

Any interested persons can go to the gallery on Mondays, or call him at 352-4918 for more information.

Tile Project

Community members will soon have the opportunity to contribute to a cooperative work of art to be displayed in a public place in Grant.

Unfinished tiles and glazes will be available at the gallery for painting. Once finished, they will be fired and incorporated into a mural or murals to be displayed in public areas in Grant.

Eloise Hughes Reception

Artist and long time supporter of the arts, Eloise Hughes, is leaving the Grant area, and the arts council will be honoring her with a reception open to the public on Saturday evening, April 24, during gallery hours, 6-8 p.m.

The public is invited to join the reception, enjoy refreshments and wish her well before her move.

Public Input Welcome

Community members are encouraged to get involved in arts council projects, and suggestions for new projects are always welcome.

Arts council meetings are held at 7 p.m. at the gallery on the second Thursday of each month. Anyone is welcome to attend or become a member.

The gallery features a new display each month: April has paintings by Pearl Stumpf; May will feature photographs by North Platte photographer Ron Boerner.

June’s show will be an open show, with entries accepted from anyone wishing to display their work. Contact Studio and Gallery Manager DeeAnn Tatum for more information on any upcoming shows, or refer to the arts council website: www.perkinscountycreators.com for a 2010 schedule as well as photos of past shows.
