After serving the county for nearly 45 years, two of Perkins County’s road crew members have retired.
Gerald (Jake) Burge and Keith Nelson will be honored at a public reception at the community hall in Madrid on Friday, April 30, from 4-6 p.m.
Burge began his career in maintaining the county’s roads in January 1965, serving District 2.
Nelson began working for the county in March 1966 and served as superintendent of roads for most of the years he was a county employee.
“Nearly 90 years combined of these men working for the county is really something,” said Jim Bryant, foreman of Perkins County Roads District 2.
The two have obviously gone through several commissioners during their many years of service to the county, said Bryant.
