Boy and Girl Staters selected PDF Print E-mail

Area legion posts and units have selected their delegates and alternates to attend Girls and Boys State in June.

Grant Unit 40

Stephanie Reichert and Debbie Dahlkoetter have been chosen to represent Grant Unit 40, Calla Mailand will be the alternate.

Stephanie Reichert is the daughter of Fred and Paige Reichert and a member of Grant United Methodist Church. At Perkins County High School, she has been in FCCLA, golf, student council, basketball, speech, music and Perkins County Youth Council.

Debbie Dahlkoetter is the daughter of Deb and Earl Dahlkoetter of rural Grant. She is an FCCLA member, has been in volleyball, basketball, track, drama, 4-H, National Honor Society, music and has been on the honor roll at Perkins County High School.

Other activities include Perkins County Youth Council, cheerleading and drama.

She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Alternate Calla Mailand is the daughter of Steve and Kathy Mailand.

She has been on the honor roll at Perkins County High School, drama, 4-H, student council, speech, scholastics, National Honor Society, track and music.

She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Representing Grant Unit 40 at Boys State are Michael York as delegate and John Prante as alternate.

Michael York is the son of Kirk York and Kelli Ryan.

At Perkins County High School, he has been on the honor roll, in drama, FFA, basketball, speech, National Honor Society, football and track.

John Prante is the son of Bill and Kim Prante of Grant. He is a member of the E-Free Church, and has been active in FCCLA, golf, drama, FFA, cross country, speech, football, wrestling and music while attending Perkins County High School. He has also been a participant in swim team and soccer through the City of Grant.

Madrid Unit 271

Madrid Unit 271 has chosen Jeremy Hagan as its representative at Boys State.

Jeremy is the son of Ron and Diana Hagan of Madrid.

He is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Grant, and while at Perkins County High School has participated in drama, student council, FFA, basketball, speech, scholastics, National Honor Society, football, track and music, has been on the honor roll and a class officer. He has also participated in 4-H.

Elsie Unit 206

Alek Pelster will represent Elsie Unit 206.

He is the son of Joe and Carol Pelster of Elsie and is a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

School activities he has taken part in include drama, basketball, scholastics, football. He has held a class office, has been on the honor roll, has played baseball and participated in 4-H.

Venango Unit 270

Venango Unit 270 has chosen Emily Kiolbasa as delegate and Krystal Gaar as alternate for 2010 Girls State; and Ben Ross and Zach Jameson as Boys State delegate and alternate.

Emily Kiolbasa is the daughter of Bob and Brenda Kiolbasa of Grant. While at Perkins County High School Emily has been a class officer and on the honor roll, has participated in FCCLA, golf, drama, student council, basketball, scholastics, National Honor Society and music. She is also on the Perkins County Youth Council and Adrian Smith’s Youth Advisory Council.

She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Krystal Gaar is the daughter of Russ and Jeanne Gaar of Grant.

She is a member of the Grant Evangelical Free Church in Grant.

She has been active in drama, student council, cross country, scholastics, National Honor Society, track and music at Perkins County High School. She has also been a class officer and included on the honor roll. She has served as boys basketball manager and has participated in Youth Challenge Bible Quizzes.

Ben Ross is the son of Ted and Renae Deaver and Scott Ross.

At Perkins County High School he has participated in golf, student council, basketball, speech, scholastics and football, and has been on the honor roll. He has participated in RYLA and has volunteered for the E-Free Church, doing construction on the youth building.

He is a member of the Grant E-Free Church.

Zach Jameson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jameson, Jr. of Venango.

He has been active in the drama department at Perkins County High School.

Wallace Unit 213

Representing the Wallace Unit 213 are Shanice Harris and Lane Swedberg.

Shanice Harris is the daughter of Scott and Deb Harris. She has held a class office at Wallace High School, has been on the honor roll, and has been active in FCCLA, volleyball, drama, FFA, basketball, scholastics, National Honor Society, track and music. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Lane Swedberg is the son of Ralph and LaDonna Swedberg of Wallace. At Wallace High School, he has been a class officer, on the honor roll, has been a participant in FCCLA, drama, student council, FFA, basketball, speech, scholastics, National Honor Society, football, track and music.

He has also been a member of 4-H. He is a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
