|Homestead Exemption filing deadline is June 30|
By Jan Rahn
The deadline for county residents to file for a Homestead Exemption is June 30.
According to Perkins County Assessor Bonnie Appel, three groups of people are eligible for the Homestead Exemption.
Eligible persons must fit into one of three categories: 1) Persons over age 65, 2) certain disabled individuals, 3) certain disabled veterans and their widow(er)s.
The exemption provides relief from property taxes by exempting all or a portion of the valuation of the homestead from taxation.
The State of Nebraska reimburses the counties and other governmental subdivisions for the taxes lost due to the exemption.
