|Grainton, Wallace take brunt of Friday’s storm|
By Jan Rahn
Damaging hail hit eastern Perkins County and the towns of Grainton and Wallace Friday night, leaving some homes, vehicles, and businesses without windows.
Near Grainton, windows on the west side of homes were knocked out by hail that “lasted a long time,” according to Wallace Postmaster Mitzi Gartrell, whose home was one of those badly damaged.
Gartrell said they had no idea how much it rained because the hail also broke all of the gauges.
The home of Gartrell’s daughter, Mandy Sinsel who lives near the Perkins/Lincoln county line, was riddled with hail.
“It looks like a drive-by shooting,” said Gartrell. She said the house was newly sided only two years ago.
Gartrell said she was really grateful for the phone calls from the National Weather Service alerting her and her husband Jim of the approaching storm.
