Area firemen attended State Fire School PDF Print E-mail

About 1,650 people from Nebraska and several other states attended the 73rd Annual Nebraska State Fire School May 21-23 in Grand Island.

The event was offered by the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association in cooperation with the State Fire Marshals Training Division, Heartland Events Center/Fonner Park and Central Community College-Grand Island.

Participants were able to take classes on agricultural emergencies, basic pump operations, basic rope rescue, emergency vehicle operations, fire investigation, fire prevention, foam operations, forcible entry techniques, grain extrication, railroad hazardous materials, rural water supply and practical hydraulics, thermal imaging cameras, vehicle extrication, wildland fires and other topics. Vehicle and structure fire simulators also were held.

The following individuals completed at least nine hours out of the 12 hours of classroom training offered at the school: Cassandra Cockerill, Seth Cockerill, Bradley Dickinson, Rick Dreiling, Kile Goodwin, Ron Krause, Rebecca Lagler, Harlan Rahn, Jessica Shireman, Donald Softley and Chasity Tunison of the Grant Volunteer Fire Department; Don Lee and Mike Lee of the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department; Brendon Cline and Troy Grothman of the Venango Volunteer Fire Department and Charlie Andrews, Leslie Chrisman, Deb Jameson, Ray Jameson, Manny Pacheco, Michael Sullivan, Shawn Sullivan, Lynn Swanson and Ashley Whitson of the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department.
