|New pumper truck joins Grant’s fire equipment fleet|
By Jan Rahn
Replacing their old pumper at least 10 years beyond the federal standard recommended time frame, the Grant Volunteer Fire Department is the proud owner of a new four-door pumper truck.
Arriving in time for the Fourth of July weekend, the new fire truck replaces a 1976 pump and a 1990 Chevy chassis, which the department would like to sell.
“Its days as a fire truck are over,” said Fire Chief Don Softley. “The pump is no longer certifiable.”
The original 1976 chassis is now part of the department’s rescue equipment truck.
The newly purchased 2009 chassis and 2010 apparatus body means none of the firefighters have to ride dangerously outside of the cab on the pump platform on the way to a fire.
