|Arts council tile project underway|
Kids enrolled in the summer reading program at Hastings Memorial Library in Grant helped the Perkins County Area Arts Council kick off a new community project, a tile mural that will be displayed at the library.
On their final day of the summer reading program, participants met at the Grant City Park on Thursday, July 8, and as part of their final activities were given a tile to decorate however they wanted.
Approximately 40 children took part in the project.
The goal of the arts council is to have members of the community decorate 100 tiles, that will be arranged in a series of framed works that will be mounted either in the hallway or in the community room at Hastings Memorial Library.
The arts council has purchased tile and glaze through keno funds granted by the City of Grant.
Any community member wishing to contribute a decorated tile may do so during open hours at the gallery, 6-8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, or at the arts council’s table at the Perkins County Fair.
