UNL Student Intern
Hello Grant, Nebraska! My name is Tawny Burmood and I’m the newest addition to the newspaper staff, joining as a student intern for a few weeks.
I’ve made the move out west to get some real newspaper experience under my belt before I graduate in December with a degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
So just a little about myself, I’ve worked for the Daily Nebraskan, UNL’s student newspaper. I also recently returned from a study abroad trip in Singapore, Cambodia and Indonesia in June, and last summer studied abroad in Germany.
Although I had never been to Grant, I can relate to the saying “everyone knows everyone here.” I actually grew up in Waverly, a fairly small town northeast of Lincoln with a population around 3,000.
My mother, Melissa Burmood, grew up just a few miles from Grant in Ogallala, and much of my family still lives there, including my grandparents, Sarah and Carl Bloomberg.
So if you see an unfamiliar girl taking your picture at the upcoming Perkins County Fair, don’t be alarmed. I’m excited to be here and look forward to learning more about the community.
