|New deputy joins Perkins County Sheriff’s Office|
By Jan Rahn
A new deputy, Blake Smidt, joined the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office in early July, and has recently graduated from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
Deputy Smidt is now completing an in-house field training program with Sergeant Kip Bradley.
He will be able to become familiar with the operations, policies and procedures of the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office before beginning patrol duties on his own, said Perkins County Sheriff Jim Bruggeman.
Smidt was hired to fill the road patrol position vacated by Deputy Talon Darling who resigned late June to move closer to his fiancée in Denver. Darling is now employed as a police officer with the Wheatridge Police Department.
