The Wallace Lady Cats volleyball team enters the 2010 season with excitement under the leadership of head coach Kory Rohde and assistant coach Elizabeth Strand.

Student managers Mickayla Sheets, Morgan Messersmith, Christina Daniels, and Abbey Rohde will also be assisting the ladies throughout the season.

Over the summer the Lady Cats, who have 21 members this year, were able to attend summer team camps. Rohde feels a great deal of experience was gained.

In his words, We improved and built team chemistry.

Recall that the Cats posted a 24 to 2 record last year, and won both their conference and district. They also made a strong bid for the state title, placing third overall in D2.

The Lady Cats have nine letter-winners returning from last year’s squad–Shanice Harris 5-foot-10 senior, Katelynn Hild 5-foot-3 senior, Paige Kerchal 5-foot-7 senior, Laura O-foot-Brien 5-foot-5 senior, Whitney Smith 5-foot-7 senior, Emily Hasenauer 5-foot-5 junior, Brooke Hochstetler 5-foot-11 junior, Anna Griffiths 5-foot-11 sophomore, and Chelsea Sowle 6-foot sophomore.

The Lady Cats will also benefit from the transfer of Makayla Gardener 6-foot-2 senior from Maywood. These ladies provided significant contributions to the 2009 season and Rohde expects their leadership to continue.

Rohde anticipates a successful season for the Lady Cats, as they have some good height, athletic ability, returning experience, and great leadership.  “We are excited about this season,” said Rohde. “We have four returning starters back from a 24 and 2, third place in D2, season.  We are loaded with juniors and seniors who have provided excellent leadership and character.”

The Lady Cats’ first game will be contested on Friday, Sept. 3 against long time rivals Paxton Tigers. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. with the C-team.
