|City council votes down runway but will pursue weather system|
By Jan Rahn
Choosing to focus on repair of existing taxi lanes and installation of a new weather system , the Grant City Council voted down a new cross-wind turf runway at Grant Municipal Airport.
The taxi lanes to the hanger are in need of repair—a project that will take several thousand dollars next spring or summer.
The council will spend FAA entitlement funds already available on the necessary concrete work which they deem more pressing at this point.
“At this time, the council chose not to pursue a cross-wind runway, but to pursue other projects at the airport,” commented City Superintendent Tyson McGreer.
Although not certain what the feelings were of council members, McGreer said they were perhaps concerned about the additional expense for yearly maintenance, as well as land acquisition, if a new runway was to be constructed.
