It was a real battle of the cats against the Paxton Tigers in Wallace on Friday, Sept. 3. The Lady Cats defeated a young scrappy Tiger team in straight sets Friday night (25-7, 25-7, 25-13).

The Tigers were tough, but the Cats were ready to fight and their offense was outstanding. The entire team worked hard, and everyone seemed prepared for the new season.

This year’s starting line up for the Wildcats include 5-foot-2 senior, Makayla Gardner, 5-foot-10 senior, Shanice Harris, 5-foot-3 senior, Katelynn Hild, 5-foot-7 senior, Paige Kerchal, 5-foot-5 senior, Laura O’Brien, 5-foot-7 senior, Whitney Smith, and 5-foot-11 junior, Brooke Hochstetler rotates in for Kerchal in the front row.

In the first set the Lady Cats struck first on a three-point service run by O’Brien. The Tigers pulled together to force the Cats to make errors bringing the Tigers to within one, but an ace block from Gardner gave the cats the ball.

Senior Shanice Harris, with the help of all of her teammates, put together an awe inspiring 12-point service run, forcing Paxton to take two timeouts, and bringing the score to 16 to two.

The Tigers rallied, but the Lady Cats were too much for the young Tiger team. The Wildcats took the first set 25 to 10, on back-to-back kills by Smith and then Gardner.
