|Letter to the Editor...Candidate assures eligibility to run|
My name is Pam Potthoff and I am a candidate for a position on the Nebraska Beef Council (NBC) from Area 6.
It has been brought to my attention that incorrect information is being circulated concerning my eligibility to run. One of the basic requirements for a seat on the Nebraska Beef Council is active participation as a producer in Nebraska for at least the previous five years AND you must own those cattle.
I grew up on a dairy farm and actively participated in the operation as I grew up. I bought my first cow at 16. (My age, not the cow’s!) I married a livestock producer and have actively participated in the cattle operation ever since. I have the scars to prove it! I have been certified to run by the NBC.
Ballots will be mailed shortly to those producers on the NBC list. Voting by mail starts Nov. 1 and goes until the 15th.
There are currently some major issues facing the beef industry and the beef checkoff program. These include the misallocation of checkoff funds.
Changes need to be made in the oversight of YOUR checkoff dollars and that won’t happen as long as the same group (and/or their friends) that allowed these misallocations to occur are allowed to continue to oversee the funds.
Your vote is important. If you do not receive a ballot by mail around Nov. 1 and you should have, please call Lisa Brass with the Nebraska Beef Council at 800-421-5326. She will check your eligibility and send you a ballot.
If you have family or partners who have shared interest in your herd, they may qualify, too.
I would appreciate your support, but no matter where you plan to place your voting check, please take the time to VOTE.
Pam Potthoff, Candidate
The Nebraska Beef Council
