Friday night, the Wallace Wildcats traveled to Maywood to face the Tigers.

In the first quarter it was clear that the Ladies were ready to battle, outscoring their opponents 25 to 0.

The second quarter was much the same, as some of the younger players were allowed some valuable court time. As the Lady Cats headed into the locker room at the half, they led 40 to 4.

The third quarter saw the Tigers with determination, but the Lady Cats were relentless. As the buzzer sounded at the end of the third quarter, the Wildcats were ahead 61 to 17. In the fourth quarter the Tigers tried to build some momentum, but the Lady Cats refused to let up. The game ended with the Wildcats ahead 78 to 24.

Offensively, senior Shanice Harris led the Cats with 19 points (one free throw) followed by senior MaKayla Gardner with 17 points (one free throw), and junior Brooke Hochstetler with 16 points. Senior Katelynn Hild had nine points (one free throw), seniors Laura O’Brien and Whitney Smith, and sophomore Chelsea Sowle (two free throws) each had four points, junior Emily Hasenauer had three points (one free throw), and junior Lexi Banks had two points.

Leading the team with offensive rebounds were Gardner (five), Sowle (four), O’Brien (three), Harris (three), Hasenauer (three), Smith (two), Hochstetler (two), Hild (one) and Messersmith (one).

Leading the team with assists were O’Brien (five), Hild (four); Hasenauer (two), Hubbard (two), Banks (one), Gardner (one), Sowle (one), Messersmith (one), and Hochstetler, (one).

Defensively, Harris led the Cats with five rebounds and three Steals, followed very closely by Sowle with four rebounds, one block, and three steals, Hochstetler with five rebounds and two steals, and Gardner with five rebounds, one block, and one steal. Smith had four rebounds and two steals, Hild with one rebound and four steals, O’Brien with two rebounds and three steals, Messersmith had two rebounds and one steal, and Griffiths had one rebound.

Wallace vs Wauneta-Palisade

Saturday, the Lady Cats hosted the Broncos of Wauneta-Palisade. The Ladies started out slowly, trailing the Broncos in the first quarter 12 to 19. In the second quarter, the girls started to build momentum, and as the buzzer sounded for the half the Lady Cats headed into the locker room leading 37 to 28.

Half time, unfortunately, saw a new spark for the Lady Broncos. They outscored the Cats in the third quarter by nine, tying the score at 44.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Cats managed to rebuild their momentum. As the buzzer sounded to close the game the Lady Cats led, 58 to 50.

Gardner led the Cats with 22 points (two free throws), followed by O’Brien with 11 points (three free throws), and Harris with 10 points (two free throws). Smith had eight points (two free throws), Hochstetler had three points (one free throw), Hild (two free throws), and Hasenauer each had two points.

Hochstetler had three rebounds, O’Brien had two steals, and Hasenauer had one rebound and one steal.

The Lady Cats will face Maxwell this Friday, Dec. 10 in Maxwell, with girls junior varsity starting at 4 p.m.
