Left-handed point guard Col-lin Harvey scorched the Plainsmen for 10 second-quarter points to unlock a 51-32 win for the Red Raiders in Sidney Friday night.

Respected as both a driver to the basket and a spot-up shooter, Harvey hammered down a “three” in the first quarter. He later faked that shot and penetrated to the basket for an open-handed layup in the next quarter.

Harvey helped turn a 14-10 lead to a 29-11 one with a 15-1 Sidney run.

Perkins County scratched and clawed in the first quarter and made the lopsided outcome a surprise by ending it behind by just two at 12-10.

Jake Sexson stroked a short jumper and finger-rolled in a pass from Blake Poppe in the Plainsmen’s first quarter. However, Perkins County only had two leads: 4-3 and 6-5.

Harvey rattled in a three-pointer and plundered the lead from the Plainsmen for good at 8-6.

Power forward Harrison Keeton opened both halves of play with three pointers for the Red Raiders. The third quarter strike nudged Sidney to a 32-13 lead.

A 14-3 run distanced the Red Raiders to a 46-16 lead afterward.

He even returned to the game, but how Sidney’s Chase Frerichs got up from the floor remains a mystery. Chasing a Perkins County dribbler, Frerichs smashed into a “pick” set by the big and solid Tyler Brott. Most everyone in the building heard the crash. Ironically, Frerichs got tagged with a foul for his defensive hustle.

Three players scored 41 of Sidney’s 51 points: Harvey with 20, Keeton with 13 and eight for penetrating guard Tyler Schoening. Harvey and Keeton struck for three three-pointers apiece.

No Perkins County scorer reached double figures, with Jake Sexson’s six points on two early field goals and late free throws coming the closest.

Plainsmen guard Quinton Hite intercepted a pass and deposited the breakaway shot in the fourth quarter to keep things interesting.

Underclassmen Alek Pelster and Elliot Carlson cashed in three-pointers late in the game for the Plainsmen.
