|Winter travel reminders|
When winter storms are poised to move across the state, the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is reminding motorist to keep up to date on the latest weather and travel conditions.
Travelers can utilize the state’s automated road and weather condition information system by dialing 511 from any landline or cellular phone or accessing the internet at www.511nebraska.org. Travelers outside of Nebraska can dial 1-800-906-9069.
As conditions change, motorists are reminded to adjust their speed and never travel faster than conditions allow. Slick surfaces make it difficult to steer and stop.
Do not drive in slick, wet, snowy weather with the cruise control on.
Motorists are also encouraged to give themselves plenty of time and distance to react to others around them. Be sure to exercise caution on bridges and overpasses, keep headlights on and make sure they are cleaned off.
The Nebraska State Patrol is urging the public to partner with law enforcement in keeping impaired drivers off the roadways.
Report an impaired or reckless driver when safe to do so by dialing the Nebraska State Patrol Highway Helpline at *55 from any cellular phone or 1-800-525-5555 from any landline. Motorists in need of emergency roadside assistance should also utilized *55.
