Perkins County speakers win SPVA PDF Print E-mail

Because the SPVA Speech Contest is normally held the third or fourth week of February, speakers don’t usually spend the time between rounds sitting outside school buildings, enjoying the weather.
That’s just what happened on Wednesday, Feb. 16 when Imperial reached the record setting state high temperature of 76 degrees.
Inside Chase County High School, Perkins County competitive speakers were busy sending 16 of their 18 entries into the final round of competition. SPVA rules allow only two entrants per each of the nine events.
At the end of the day, PCHS took home first place team honors with 252 team points. St. Pat’s earned second place with 187 points and Maxwell was third.
Speakers and their placings: Informative–Kristin Beck second, Rebecca Cornelius third; Persuasive–Kylie Hanson third, Rachel Patrick; Entertainment–Lacey Jensen second, Alison Kiolbasa third; Extemporaneous–Tori Osler first, Trevor Lee third; Poetry–Calla Mailand third, Lexi Schmidt; Humorous Prose–Ashley Kemling first, Brady Mailand second; Serious Prose–Calla Mailand first, Ashley Kemling second; Duet Acting–Tori Osler and Christian Miyamoto first, Rachel Patrick and Lacey Jensen second; OID–Michael Dreiling, Jake Sexson, Christian Miyamoto and Jeremy Hagan first; Trevor Lee, Quinton Hite, Elliot Carlson and Colton White second.
Ogallala Invite  
Ogallala held their annual speech invite on Saturday, Feb.19. Medalists from that meet included Kristin Beck–Informative third, Trevor Lee– Extemp third, Calla Mailand–Poetry third, and Ashley Kemling–Humorous Prose second.
Those students receiving superior ratings in each preliminary round included Kylie Hanson–Persuasive, Rebecca Cornelius–Informative, Lacey Jensen–Entertainment, Calla Mailand–Serious Prose, Lexi Schmidt–Humorous Prose.
Blue and Gold Meet
Saturday, Feb. 12 found speakers competing at the North Platte High School Blue and Gold Meet.
Medalists for the day included Lacey Jensen 10th–Entertainment Speaking; Michael Dreiling, Michael York, Jeremy Hagan and Jake Sexson eighth–Serious Prose; Ashley Kemling 11th–Serious Prose. Ashley also received two superiors in the preliminary rounds of Humorous Prose.
District Meet
District competition for PCHS speakers will be held at Dundy County-Stratton High School on Wednesday, March 16.
The C2 state competition is scheduled for Friday, March 25.
