FFA Chapter competes PDF Print E-mail

On Feb. 9 and 23 the Perkins County FFA chapter traveled to Curtis to compete in the Livestock Judging contest, as well as the CDE’s contest.
Senior livestock judges receiving purple ribbons and qualifying for state are Jessica Day- seventh, Riley Kosmicki- 16th, Seth Burge- 22nd, Ashley Kemling- 34th. Logan Cunningham also participated and placed 36th.
In Junior Livestock Judging receiving purple ribbons and qualifying for the State Contest are Michael Dreiling second, Justin Gentry 11th, Jessi Hoffert 18th, and Rebecca Cornelius 22nd.
Others placing at the contest were Cole Whalen 24th, Colton White 25th, Matisyn Humphrey 26th, Carlie Waitley 32nd, Alex Johnston 35th, Jessie Woodmancy 38th, Vinny Ross 39th, Michael Tucker 50th, Jake Sexson 56th, and Blake Poppe 58th.
The CDE’s competitions were held as well. In the Nursery and Landscaping competition were Jessi Hoffert, Jessie Woodmancy, Colton White, and Lacey Jensen who placed third as a team and qualified for state.
Justin Gentry and Tayler Walter were the top scoring individuals in Agriscience. The chapter will select a team of four people, and they will participate in the state contest.
The Senior Livestock Management team of Riley K., Jessica D., Ashley K., Lacey J., and Matisyn H. placed sixth out of 25 teams. They also won the poultry contest and received a purple ribbon.
Our Junior Livestock Management team placed 13th.
In Agricultural Mechanics Michael Dreiling, Sean Farnsworth, Cole Whalen, and Colton White placed second and qualified for state competition.
Individually, Colton W. placed first in Energy Systems, Michael D. placed fifth in Environment and Natural Resources, Sean F. placed sixth in Structural Systems, and Cole W. placed ninth in Machine and Equipment System.
Team #2 with Ethan Behrends, Justin Hatcher, Blake Poppe, and Elliot Carlson placed sixth out of 13 teams. Elliot C. placed second in Energy Systems, Blake P. placed third in Structural Systems, Justin H. placed fourth in Machine and Equipment Systems, and Ethan B. placed seventh in Environment and Natural Resources.
Vinny Ross, Scott Mosel, and Tyler Brott placed eighth in welding and qualified for state. Tyrone Summer, Callie Meyer, and Riley Kosmicki placed 22nd.
In Ag Sales Taylor Boldt placed 10th, Seth Burge placed 21st, Michael Dreiling placed 22nd, and John Prante placed 37th. They got sixth as a team.
Jake Sexson, Katie Rowley, Jessie Woodmancy, and Jessi Hoffert placed eighth. Jake Sexson got 18th, Jessie Hoffert 27th, Jessie Woodmancy 28th, and Katie Rowley 33rd.
In Food Science, out of 45 competitors Caleb Breazeale placed 18th, Hailey Sletten  20th, and Justin Gentry 25th.
The chapter competed in the Floriculture contest for the first time, and Jessyca Briggs placed 57th.
Last week (Feb. 21-25) was FFA week, activities were held daily, some including Blue and Gold Day, Green Hand ceremony, staff appreciation breakfast, Kiss a Pig contest, and drive your tractor to school day.
