Something to write home about
Greetings from Finland
By Janet Kuskie

I thought I would let everyone back home know how I am doing here in Finland. I have had such an amazing experience here.
When I first came to Finland I got to go sailing in the Sea of Bothnia. It was quite an experience that I never thought I would have gotten to try.
I went to Lapland in early December. The hat I am wearing in the picture is a traditional Lapland man’s hat. I was in Lapland for our Rotary event, which included skiing, dog sledge rides, reindeer sledge rides and snow carving.
I have also learned to ice skate outside as well as play hockey. Even when it is 25 below I love skating.
You would never expect to see so many people bike everywhere, even in the winter. I have come to like biking to school, even on ice and snow. It hurts quite a bit when you fall, though!
I started to dance at City Dance in Oulu dancing Bollywood and I really like it a lot. At school we learn old dance and ballroom dancing.
In March I am going to try to spend the night in the Ice Hotel. I am very excited to experience that.
I will also try to visit Helsinki.
Those are a few of the trips and activities I have gotten to do here, and some that will be coming in the next few months.
I would like to thank everyone, especially the Rotary Club for getting me here and for all the donations from everyone! I really am having the best time here and love it.
I am so happy I had this chance and without amazing people who helped, it would have never happened. Thank you all.
