Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic Beef Contest held PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday, Feb. 19, a total of 305 contestants filled the exhibit building at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds for the 4th Annual NCC Contest.  The contestants represented 26 counties, 23 colleges and 11 states.  
Cattle of 16 different breeds and 17 different producers made up the 10 class contest.  
This year’s contest was the largest ever. In just four years the number of contestants has almost doubled, attracting teams from as far away as California and Oregon.
In the Junior Youth Division 11 teams competed with the Phillipsburg, Kan., team taking top honors. Kearney placed second and the team from Grant (Brandy Gittlein, Regan Gittlein, Jessica Hartman) rounding out the top three teams.
In the Senior Youth Division 11 teams competed, with Big Timber, Mont. winning.
In the largest contest of the day in the Junior College Division 30 teams competed with Butler Community College winning.    
In the Senior College Division 12 teams competed with Colorado State University finishing at the top. California State University–Chico finished second and the University of Nebraska placed third.
Teams traveled from California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota and Wyoming.
