Be part of the torch run this summer PDF Print E-mail

Everyone is invited to run a mile with the torch in the 2011 Cornhusker State Games Torch Run, presented by the Nebraska Army National Guard and Air Guard. Over 1,000 Nebraskans will take the opportunity to share in this statewide tradition.
The Cornhusker State Games is one of the largest amateur sports festivals in the nation. This July, thousands of Nebraskans of all ages and abilities will compete in more than 60 sports, showcasing their talents and encouraging others to adopt healthy, active lifestyles.
The spirit of the games will be spread statewide by the Torch Run, thanks to the sponsorship of the Nebraska National Guard and the coordination efforts of hundreds of volunteers.
Patterned after the Olympic Torch Run, the relay focuses the attention of the public on the Cornhusker State Games as it crosses the state.
When the opening ceremonies kick off the Games on July 15 at Seacrest Field in Lincoln, the torch will have traveled over 1,100 miles from the Wyoming border west of Scottsbluff to the streets of Lincoln.
The Torch Run exemplifies many things about Nebraskans: work ethic, individual will to succeed, and desire for self-improvement and physical fitness. Participants may choose to run for vigorous exercise or a casual jog. But best of all, they can choose to run a mile just for the memories.
