It’s official–contracts for  this year’s entertainers at the Chase County Fair are signed, sealed and delivered.
This year’s fair will feature a rock show Friday, Aug. 19, followed with a country show on Saturday, Aug. 20.
REO Speedwagon will return to the Chase County Fair this year, performing their iconic hits. REO’s last visit to the Chase County Fair in 1997 drew rave reviews.
Saturday’s country show will be headlined by Craig Morgan, owner of 14 Top 10 hits on the country charts.
Special guests to open the night will be The Band Perry, named the 2011 top new vocal group by the Academy of Country Music (ACM).
Fair board president Dave Schilke said he and the board feel they’ve booked another great year of entertainment.
He said the country show with Craig Morgan and The Band Perry promises to be a great show.
He noted REO Speedwagon played to a big crowd in their last appearance here and expects the same again this year.
REO Speedwagon
Formed in 1967 and fronted by vocalist Kevin Cronin since 1972, REO Speedwagon has, for decades, represented a confounding blend of consistency and change.
In the early days, they rode from gig to gig in station wagons, just to get the REO name out.
That paid off later as they rose to the top of the charts with 22 million albums sold in the U.S. and 40 million around the globe. They strung together a series of gold and platinum records, along with international hit singles.
Their 1980 album, “Hi Infidelity,” rose to #1 and started a run of  three Top 10 albums. In addition, the album was certified as platinum 10 times and produced six single releases.
The band has gone on stage, in the studio and done the work, year after year—with dozens of albums and hundreds  and possibly thousands of concerts.
Their eyes have always been focused on the future and on the road—not a year has gone by where REO Speedwagon didn’t perform live.
They keep thrilling fans with hits like “Keep On Loving You” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling.”
Craig Morgan
By all accounts, Craig Morgan has made it.
With 14 Top 10 hits, including fan-favorites “Redneck Yacht Club,” “Almost Home,” “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” and “Tough.”
In 2008, he reached another  milestone when he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
He plays more than 120 live shows every year, touring with Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, Brad Paisley and Trace Adkins.
He debuted his hunting show on the Outdoor Channel in June 2010. “Craig Morgan: All Access Outdoors,” quickly became the network’s #1-rated Saturday morning hunting show
He has more than 10 years active duty serving the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions and is a graduate of the ROK Ranger School
He recently became a spokesperson for Not Alone. The organization empowers and assists soldiers and their families dealing with the after-effects of combat stress as the soldier transitions to life back at home.
In 2006, Morgan received the USO Merit Award for his tireless support of the military.
The Band Perry
The Band Perry, a trio of siblings performing as special guests with Morgan, now enjoy a new reason to be thankful. Their powerful single, “If I Die Young,” hit #1 on the country radio charts–a career-first for the band.
Written by the band, “If I Die Young” sold more than one million copies, racked up more than 11 million views on YouTube on its way up to #1 on the Country Radio chart
Their first single, “Hip To My Heart” broke the Top 20 at Country Radio.
The Band Perry’s October 2010 album release, “THE BAND PERRY,” debuted at #2.
They received a Country Music Association nomination for Best Vocal Group, received three American Country Award nominations, a Grammy Award and just won the 2011 ACM top new vocal group.
Tickets for this year’s shows will go on sale Friday, June 24. Details on online pre-sale discount tickets can be found at the fair’s web-site, www.chasecountyfair.com.
