Special guest artists at Meadowlark Gallery in Grant during the month of April are  wood carvers, including local artists Archie Silvrants and John Potts, and graphite artist Tina Simeon.
Come and see what can be done with a block of wood, a knife and some imagination as the carvers share their latest creations. There are also carved animal antlers and miniature toothpick carvings.

Graphite Artist
Tina Simeon, who lives in Keith County, works mainly in graphite and pen and ink.
“I have always been detail-oriented, and these two mediums allow me to do my work with great detail,” Simeon said.
Simeon grew up in and currently resides near Ogallala. She feels growing up on a farm inspired her lifelong love of animal, flower and rural subjects. She has no formal art education, but has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil.
She chooses subjects that stir emotion in her, and hopes that those viewing her work can see the beauty that she sees in everyday life.
She uses a wide range of subjects, from old barns and houses to animals and people, especially rural life.
“I hope that seeing this beauty will make people more aware that we need to preserve what we have.”
Simeon has recently won several awards for her work, most recently in February of this year, Best of Show at the North Platte Art & Gift Gallery Open Show for a piece entitled “Danika.”
Other recent awards include an honorable mention at the Carnegie Art Center Anniversary Show in 2010 for “Albert,” and People’s Choice at the Phillips County Arts Council Annual Show for “Listening In.”
In addition to drawing, Simeon also enjoys gardening. “It’s like painting, only with plants!” she said.
Simeon is married and has a grown daughter and two granddaughters in Minneapolis who share her love of art.
