NPCC 2011 junior camps set for June/July
Volleyball and basketball camps open to girls entering grades three through eight in the 2011-2012 school year will be presented by North Platte Community College head coach Sally Thalken and the NPCC Lady Knights.
The camp session dates are slated for June 22-24 and July 12-14. The volleyball camp will run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. Basketball camp will run from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each day of the same week.
The camps, which have been offered at the college for more than 25 years, are a great way to expose girls to both volleyball and basketball. The volleyball camp will stress fundamentals such as footwork, passing, setting, serving, and offensive/defensive skills.
The basketball camp will be devoted to basic fundamentals such as shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, footwork, defense, and team play. Conditioning will not be stressed during the camps.
Cost is $50 for one camp or $65 for both camps. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Participants will receive a free camp T-shirt if their application is sent before June 15. After June 15, camp T-shirts will be offered for $10.
“These camps have become very popular over the years,” Thalken said. “We will be closing registration as soon as they fill up so I would encourage anyone who wants to attend to register as soon as possible.”
Each participant should have tennis shoes, a T-shirt, and shorts. Kneepads for volleyball would be helpful.
A lunch of pizza by the slice and bottled water can be purchased at a cost of $3 per day.
Parents have the option of having their daughter take a physical examination or they can waive the physical by signing the waiver on the application form.
Informational pamphlets can be picked up at the NPCC South Campus main office or at the Sports Shoppe in North Platte. For more information, contact Coach Thalken at (308) 535-3759; toll-free at (800) 658-4308, ext. 3759; or by email at
