BACN enables information flow between disparate tactical data network systems. Additionally it enables voice relay and bridging between tactical voice systems both in line-of-sight and beyond line of sight situations.
BACN increases situational awareness by correlating tactical and strategic air pictures. For example, an Army unit on the ground currently sees a different picture than an aircrew, but with BACN, both see the same picture.
Due to its operational altitude this system enables ground troops to overcome communications difficulties caused by complex mountainous terrain and range.
