The Perkins County golf girls carded their lowest team score of the year even while playing against tough competition at the Lexington Invite on Sept. 9.
“In fact, each girl scored her lowest of the year,” said Coach Troy Kemling.
Perkins County placed ninth in a field of 11 teams. McCook won the invite with a score of 333.
Individually, North Platte’s Karissa Moreland placed first with a score of 80. McCook’s Megan Vetrovsky also scored 80 for second place.
Senior Janet Kuskie displayed her experience in leading the team and earned a top 10 finish.
“She did this even though her short game was not quite as sharp today as it has been,” said Kemling. “She struggled with hitting chip close to the hole. In spite of this she kept her poise and didn’t get rattled.”
Kemling said Carra Johnson was very excited with her play and how well she hit the ball. She carded an all time low score of 113.
“She has really improved and can go even lower than she did,” said Kemling. “Today will give her invaluable experience and confidence that she can play good golf.”
Kemling said each of the other girls, Shania Stickley, Hailey Sletten and Capri Meyer scored at or near their all-time low.
“The girls are beginning to see the dividends from their hard work in practice,” said Kemling.
