After a brief slump, the Lady Plainsmen came back with a vengeance, defeating rival Chase County Longhorns in three sets for Perkins County’s homecoming game Thursday, Oct. 6.
With a bit of a shaky start, the Plainsmen found themselves down by seven points at the beginning of the first set, but five kills each by Matisyn Humphrey and Shania Metcalf propelled the team back in the game and they took the lead after being down 2-9. They pulled off a 25-14 win in set one, followed by two more winning sets, a close, back-and-forth second set which ended 27-25 in the Plainsmen’s favor and 25-19 in the third set.
“This is the team I remember!” said Coach Penny Hite, who incidentally, recently reached her 100th career win as head coach. “Great focus, serving, outstanding defense, all around.”
Earlier in the week, the freshmen and sophomores played in the Perkins County tournament, starting off homecoming week with a 5-1 record.
“Tonight both reserves and JV lost, but I do see a lot of improvement in the girls,” said Hite. “All in all a good week for Perkins County Lady Plainsmen!”
Tuesday, Oct. 11 Perkins County hosted Hershey and Dundy County JV and varsity in a triangular.
Today (Thursday, Oct. 13) round one of the South Platte Valley Association (SPVA) will begin at Hershey High School. Finals will be held Saturday, Oct. 15.
