The Wallace Lady Cats basketball team enters the 2011 season with ambition under the leadership of fourth year Head Coach Jennifer Koop and Assistant Coach Cherie Sowle.
Student managers, Alissa Rosentrater, Rachel Marquardt, Peyton Messersmith, and Quinn Koop will also aid the Cats.
There are 18 girls out for the Lady Cats team this season, including seven returning letter winners. The Wildcats hope to improve on their 12-6 record from the 2010-2011 season.
The Lady Cats’ returning letter winners are Brooke Hochstetler (6-foot senior), Emily Hasenauer (5-foot-5 senior), Danica Messersmith (5-foot-7 senior), Kelsey Hubbard (5-foot-5 senior), Lexi Banks (5- foot-5 senior), Chelsea Sowle (6-foot junior), and Anna Griffiths (5-foot-5 junior).
These ladies provided significant contributions to the 2010-2011 season and the coaches expect the seniors to step into leadership positions, especially Hasenauer and Hochstetler.
“We might be overlooked by a few teams early on; our team knows where it needs to improve, and is going to work hard to get there,” said Coach Koop. “One of our greatest strengths is that we have a hard working, positive group.”
The Lady Cats’ first game will be on Friday, Dec. 2 against the Maywood Tigers at home. Saturday, Dec. 4, they will travel to face the Broncos of Wauneta-Palisade.
The Lady Cats look forward to an exciting year with lots of hard work and determination.
