The word that best describes the 2011-12 Wildcat boys basketball team is young. Wallace had seven seniors on the basketball team last year and four of them were starters. In addition to that, head coach Terry Fowler retired—so this season will begin with some young players and a young coach looking to gain some experience.
Dustin Fosbinder and an injured Ethen Scott are the lone seniors on the team and Landon Swedberg is the only returning starter. Working to grow and improve each week will be key to a successful season for this young team.
Head Coach Joe Hesse is off to a great start in his first year at the helm. He has the young group working hard and he has sparked some enthusiasm that has the team excited about this season.
Coach Hesse looks for Landon Swedberg to play well and do a little bit of everything on the court. He is also looking for returning letter winners, Taylor Doell, Josh Grauerholz and Lane Scott to step up and contribute big for the team.
Hesse feels that it will be very important for the Wildcats to limit the turnovers each game and take advantage of the other team’s mistakes.
The Wildcats will open their season on Dec. 3 with a home game against Maywood and an away game against Wauneta/Palisade on Dec. 4.
