Plainsmen win home dual; participate in Gordon-Rushville Invite PDF Print E-mail

Plainsmen wrestlers competed at the Gordon-Rushville Invite, accumulating 71 team points and placing seventh in a field of 15 teams.
In first place was Valentine with 202.5, second went to Phillip with 102.5 and Chadron was third, scoring 102.5 points.
Following were Mitchell 93, Gordon-Rushville 75, Ainsworth 73.5.
In eighth place was Bennett County, 70.5, Sidney was ninth with 57, Mullen 10th with 54, Ogallala 11th with 49.5, Hay Springs 12th with 27, Pine Ridge 13th with 26 and Red Cloud and Little Wound 14th and 15th with 0 points apiece.
Only six of the nine Perkins County team members wrestled, due to a conflict with ACT testing and injuries. Out of the six, four returned home with medals—Vinny Ross, first place in the 285 lb. class, Austin Thelander second at 106 lbs., Garrett Toner fourth at 126 lbs., Christian Miyamoto fourth in the 145 lb. bracket.
“The team wrestled well,” said Head Coach Dave Wragge. “ They have been working hard in practice and it is starting to show on Saturdays. I am excited to see what we can do at the next tournament with a full team.”
The tournament in Gordon followed a dual hosted by the Plainsmen on Thursday, Dec. 8.

With a score of 33-30, Perkins County wrestlers outscored Garden County in a home dual held Thursday, Dec.8.
Prior to the competition, parents of the team members were introduced and presented with roses.
