Gale praises schools for Veterans Day events PDF Print E-mail

Secretary of State John Gale praised the high number of Nebraska schools that held Veterans Day events this year.
“My office has been notified by 157 schools and classes of their Veterans Day events,” Gale said. “This is a very impressive number, but there are undoubtedly many schools that held events that did not notify my office.
“These schools performed a great public service to honor our Nebraska veterans.”
Gale sponsors the Honor a Veteran program, which encourages Nebraska schools to hold Veterans Day events. The program, which started in 2008, is designed to enhance civics education and recognize the contributions and sacrifices of veterans.
Gale will send a certificate of appreciation to each school and class that notified his office that it held a 2011 Veterans Day event.
“We often hear that freedom isn’t free,” Gale said. “I am passionate about promoting good citizenship.
“We all need to know the sacrifices of our veterans who have defended our freedom. Connecting our students and our veterans helps our students to learn this profound truth.”
